What is the intent of our geography curriculum?

To enable everyone to flourish and achieve their ambition at our school, the geography curriculum takes a multi-faceted approach that embraces local, national and global partnerships and will:

  • Ensure the study of globally significant places and how human and physical processes have shaped these places and the people who live there.

  • Encourage the exploration of the relationship between the earth and people through the study of places, space and the environment.

  • Allow children to make sense of their surroundings and the wider world by looking at the equality and diversity of individuals, groups and nations and their interdependence on the world.

  • Inspire pupils to understand how key physical and human geographical features have continued and changed over time and the impact this has had. Thus encouraging children to think about the past, build on their knowledge, make connections and aspire to make changes.

  • Challenge children to develop competency in geographical skills through gathering data, interpreting sources and the effective communication of this information.

Geography Enrichment:

Geography learning does not just take place within the classroom. It is enriched through:

Foundation Stage and Key Stage One investigate the local environment and have Geography focused field trips. There is a farm residential in Year 2. Key Stage Two also use the local environment and use field trips to promote first hand experiences, such as a river study visit in Year 3. They have a Year 4 residential and a Year 6 residential to study mountains and the coastal environment. Where appropriate guest speakers visit to share their experiences.
