Religious Education

What is the intent of our R.E. curriculum?

To enable everyone to flourish and achieve their ambition at our school, the R.E. curriculum takes a multi-faceted approach that embraces local, national and global partnerships and will ultimately support children in developing religious literacy.

This will be achieved through the delivery of a focused and progressive R.E. curriculum which also aims to enhance learning in other curriculum areas through common ‘golden threads’ which deepen conceptual understanding.

Ambition and aspiration

  • To support all children, regardless of faith or world view, to become successful learners, confident to acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other world faiths
  • To support each child to achieve excellence in his or her spiritual, moral, social and cultural development by:
    • considering ‘big questions’ raised by human experience and reflecting on how religious and other traditions respond to them
    • developing confidence to respond to such questions with reference to religious beliefs, teachings, practices, values and traditions, relating them to his or her own understanding and experience
    • reflecting on his or her own beliefs, values and experiences in light of his or her study of religious and other traditions

Equality and diversity

  • To support and challenge every child to develop positive attitudes of mutual respect for and tolerance of, those with different faiths and beliefs
  • To develop each child’s understanding of the ways in which religious beliefs, teachings, practices, values and traditions influence individuals, communities, societies and cultures
  • Through the active promotion of British Values, to increase each child’s ability, to become a responsible citizen, confident to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues, with reference to the beliefs, teachings, practices, sources of authority and ways of living associated with the principle religions represented in the UK

Continuity and change

  • To challenge every child to respond to current affairs in an empathetic manner which demonstrates tolerance and understanding. To also develop a clear philosophy about the role of the human race in supporting others and where appropriate, to be ambitious about his or her ability to take action against inequality or injustice, or to prevent future crises
