Q&A

My child is really nervous/anxious about going what should I do? That is completely normal for many children. It is a big thing to go away with their school class and stay away from home. Talk to them about their worries/fears and talk to Mr Harris and the headteacher and we will do our best to overcome these and make any adjustments that may be necessary. Residentials are a really important part of growing up and the sooner the children experience going on one, the easier it will be next time. From experience, one of the biggest worries is that it's unknown and out of their comfort zone and those children are the ones who have had the best time when they return home again.

Here is some feedback from a parent:

"My child was really nervous before going and really didn't want to go. I'm so glad they went in the end, since coming back they haven't stopped talking about what a great time they had!"  Year 4 Parent 2022

How can we find out how you're getting on? I will update twitter as much as possible (at least every night) and let school know so we can inform you, either through twitter, this webpage or parenthub) that we have arrived safely and when we have departed.

What do we need to bring? There is a guide of the types of things that you will need in the information shared above. Exact kit lists will be given nearer the time.

What is the food like? There will be several different options for all meals and they will be able to accommodate for different dietary requirements. Ilam Hall are used to providing food for groups of children so know what children like and dislike!! Once we have a confirmed menu for the visit, I'll let you know.

Can we bring money? No, there is nothing to spend money on, the gift shop has closed.

Can we bring phones/tablets? No electronic devices are allowed to be brought, we wouldn't want them to get lost or broken. There is limited phone signal and wifi is restricted to the main building for group leaders. We won't have much free time to use them anyway, try chatting, playing 'real' games, reading and using your imagination instead!

I am struggling to afford to pay but I still want my child to go what can I do? Contact Mrs Wallace in the office to discuss different payment options including paying by installments.

Who will my child be sharing a room with? This is one of the areas that most thought and consideration is given to by the staff leading the visit. Children will be given a chance to choose 3 people who they would like to share a room with and we try to guarantee at least one of those people. Friendship groups, group dynamics, room size, location and any additional needs are all taken into account when deciding.

My child has additional needs can they still go? Absolutely! Please talk to Mr Harris and/or Mrs Bradshaw (SENDCO) and we can discuss arrangements that can be put in place to help make sure your child can be fully supported to have a really memorable visit.
